Hiking is the answer

Hiking is the answer

Hiking is the answer, if you feel overwhelmed and almost giving up on something you are working on or yourself.

Do you feel as if there’s no thing that has a point in life? You don’t see the need to do anything or be with anyone , any more. It’s like no life is left with you. You are in auto play mode , just doing stuff for the sake of it. No motivation or will within.

If you had a way out, you would gladly take it. But unfortunately you can’t see any. So you just operate like a zombie gone back to life. Nothing excite you at more. Not even your favorite Netflix show or game or your lovely pet. The whoe point is gone and you are stuck with yourself.

What qualifies to be a hike?

It involves a long walk or walking tour.

But don’t confuse it to be just a walk.

The difference is that hiking is when you are walking through a natural scenery or on a mountain. Hiking mostly takes place in mountainous or hilly areas -forests, mountains, and reserved parks. It’s more difficult than walking and might require to using more effort and energy, depending on the terrain

Exploring the beautiful Flamingos at the shores of the Lakes.

Exploring the beautiful Flamingos at the shores of the Lakes. The pink line that steals our heart many miles away. Did you know that that line was a colony of flamboyance. Is it that amazing?

Lets know a little bit of these flamingos

Flamingoes are wading birds distributed throughout America Africa, Asia, and Europe. They are known to standing on one of their leg while the one is tucked beneath their bodies.

Did you know that their colour would reveal how healthy they are?

Their pink or reddish color comes from carotenoids of animal and plants plankton in their diet.

Flamingos

A well-fed, healthy flamingo is more vibrantly colored, thus a more desirable mate. It can be white or pale if unhealthy or malnourished. Captive flamingos are a notable exception, they may turn a pale pink if they are not fed carotene at levels comparable to the wild.

Flamingos are filter feeders and mostly feed on the blue-green algae and other creatures found in the water bodies.

They prefer to breed at the Lake Natron in Tanzania. Hence known as their breeding site.

They migrate in huge colonies forming a beautiful V shape in the skies.

Their movements and migration are dictated by need for food or breeding. If the lake lacks enough food, they will gladly migrate to the greener pasture.

Nature and Wildlife are the beauty of our planet

Nature and Wildlife are the beauty of our planet

Nature and Wildlife are the beauty of our planet. From the colorful colors and unique shapes. Have you ever seen an “ugly’ tree, flower or even wildlife.

Everything in the natural world is beautiful due to the beauty added by wildlife and flora.

Their beauty have inspired our fashion

Most of the fabrics resemble patterns of both flora and fauna (plants and animals).

Who doesn’t love animal prints. From the amazing stripes resembling zebras, the unique dots inspired by cheetahs, leopards, just to name a few.

This is also one of the threat facing wildlife. Because we not only copy their style, but end up killing them for it. To get a snake skinned bag, or a pouch made of girraffe hide, mats and coats from wildlife fur.

We are allowed to copy cat their style but not kill them. Fur, hide and skin belongs to them. And not to be used for our shoes, bags, coats, etc.

Their beauty offer the best interior and exterior designs

Have you ever visited a place whose decorations and design has been inspired by nature or wildlife. From the furniture, walls, roofing and simply everything in them.

There’s this place where the owner ha constructed an artificial waterfall. He has all kind of colorful birds which have roofless houses. Hence can be able to fly away when they want. An aquarium and all the furniture are from trees at their raw state. No smoothing has been done .

Spending a weekend there is the best idea you can ever have. Allows you to experience nature at a whole other new level.

Gone are the days when we had the boring walls painted of one color. Nowadays, we are not afraid to add more color.

We are also introducing live plants into our living rooms, hotels and any places we spend time at.

Extinction means forever

“Humanity can no longer stand by in silence while our wildlife are being used, abused and exploited.
It is time we all stand together, to be the voice of the voiceless before it’s too late. Extinction means forever.”
Paul Oxton

Climate change, global warming, extinction of species, among others have been in our news for many years. But recently, it has been getting some backup. People are more alert and interested to understand what it entails. Although we are not yet where we need to be, but at least we are making good progress.

Nations have been holding talks and conferences to find solutions for a better environment. Everyone is interested in and working for both a green economy and blue sky. Climate change agenda is finally penetrating into governance.

Did you know that there some countries with no wildlife in the wild. But rather in zoos and controlled areas. This is due to different factors such as:

  • Land encroachment.
  • Introduction of invasive species.
  • Over-hunting (over-fishing included).
  • Over exploitation.
  • Human-wildlife conflicts.
  • And many others.

Wildlife are amazing creatures to interact with especially the ones in the wild. The captured ones are more like the domestic animals due to the controlled conditions.

Just like the way we enjoy watching nature documentaries. It’s way cooler enjoying a game drive or camping and being able to be with the animals. Studying them is one of the most interesting study you could ever want to. They will always surprise and amaze you.

Have you ever watched the simplest animals like butterflies, beetles, ants, wasps. Get to observe how they operate and relate with each other. You will notice they are not very different from us. As well as surprise you how organized they are.

Imagine all that awesomeness disappearing due to our negative impact to the environment. A planet with no wildlife will be like a graveyard. No birds to wake us up with beautiful songs, no cricket noises in the evening and no watching lions pursuing an antelope. It will be a boring planet.

Picture a very busy city like New York or even Nairobi. The heavy traffic of both vehicles and humans. Running up and down like mad men and women. Some of them not knowing where they are heading or doing. They are just on the move.

The atmosphere filled with harmful gases and fresh air because a looked for commodity. Cities that run around the clock whereby you easily miss out weekends and holidays. Since you fail to recognize them due to busy and tight schedules.

Extinction means forever. And there’s no coming back. It’s a dead dead situation. Once it claims something, it goes for good. Just like dinosaurs and other extinct species did.

Lake Naivasha

Lake Naivasha is a fresh water lake that has survived all kinds of threats presented by human activities. Lake Naivasha is a ramsar site. Despite being an important bird sanctuary and wetland, it has been left at the mercies of the local communities. No fence around it and developments have been carried out at its shores.
It is fed by two rivers, the malewa and gilgil. There are no visible outlets but it is believed to have one underground.
It was once both a wildlife corridor and water source for wildlife at Hell’s Gate National Park. But that rapidly changed due to urbanization and land encroachment. Flower farms and big hotels bought land around it , and the rest remained a history. The remaining part was taken over by the community that practiced fishing both the illegal and legal one. Small in Size Big in Value

The best safari drive involves enjoying both the big and small fauna as well as the flora. Most of us only concentrate on the big game leaving out the small ones. And thats where we all go wrong losing golden opportunities of enjoying  true treasures of nature.

Today I will introduce you to one of those small treasures that you might have missed out in the past. This treasure is a small bird known as Temminck’s courser.

Temminck's courser....

They are mainly found in the sub-saharan Africa than comprises open short-grass plains. Regardless of their small bodies, they do have long legs. Their belly is rich in a reddish-brown color with a black spot at its centre, they also do have a black stripe running from their eyes to the back of their heads.

Interestingly they lay their eggs in the burnt bushes and grass. They are very active birds and always on the move making only short stops. They have a very funny manners while forage that involves them making short quick runs while keeping their head down, briefs stops for scanning any approaching predators. They are also noted to spend most of their time on the ground rather than flying. They rarely fly.

For a complete enjoyment of their treasure, you will need not to be on hurry so as to study them fully. It is an interesting bird to interact with especially for the bird-watchers.

Next time you are out there spotting the fauna, make a point of spotting this magnificent bird.
