What is Your Preferred Source of Protein? Are you a vegetarian or non-vegetarian? Which protein source do you like most?
Using plants as source of proteins
Vegetarians and other plant lovers, prefer getting their protein from plants.
It’s also recommended for those trying to shade some few pounds.
Most importantly, those who consume more plants than they do meat, are considered friends of our planet. As they do not promote the emission of human-induced greenhouse gases.
These plants include:
Seeds and Nuts
Beans and legumes
Grain and cereal-based products
Just like herbivores, for you to get good amount of protein from this plants, then you have to consume them in huge amounts. They take a while to really make you full and digested very fast. Hence an excellent healthy decisions that many shun away from.
I remember how we used to joke that plants are foods for rabbits, and distancing ourselves from them. Until when we became obesed and they turned to be our life savers. So now we know better, ttat they are rich food that should make-up the biggest part of our plate.
Did you know that Kenya has a National Climate Change Action Plan?
Did you know that Kenya has a National Climate Change Action Plan? Yes we have one, that runs for five years. Full of solutions on how to curb climate change in our country.
Roles played by this National Climate Action Plan
It provides our country with a guideline to accomplish our commitment to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. Which is an international body responsible for helping our planet get solutions for climate change effects.
Give us guidelines on how to live with climate change.
Offer support while dealing with how we carry out our development activities. Putting in check negative human impacts during such developments.
Helps us work on ways to reduce amounts of green house gases we are producing.
Who are involved in this Action Plan?
It’s made up of scientist, analysts, climate change researchers, international organisation representatives, people from ministries that deal with environmental issues, among others.
These people were able to first evaluate climate change impact in our country. Noting the damage already done. So as to come up with adaptation and mitigation measures. That will help reduce the climate change effects.
Almost all parts in the country had some research done in them. And the most affected noted. These are areas that the mitigation measures got applied to first. And the result has been amazing.
People’s response towards National Change Action Plan
Through the climate change awareness platforms, people were able to help coming up with ideas to curb climate change.
They were able to change waste into useful products.
Embraced practices that aided in reduction of greenhouse gases emission.
So far they have been positive progress made and a lot is yet to be done.
So far we have two National Climate Change Action Plan (NCCAP)
Kenya’s 2nd National Climate Change Action Plan (2018 – 2022)
Kenya’s 2nd National Climate Change Action Plan (2018 – 2022). It’s basically a continuation and a comprehensive version of the 1st National Climate Change Action Plan of 2013 – 2017.
This Action Plan first identified priory areas that helped shape the details to be included. These priority areas are:
Food and Nutrition Security. Whereby they are to assist Kenyans increase food production and nutrition security. By promoting agricultural practices that will produce low carbon.
Disaster Risk Management. This is to be addressed by ensuring measures are put in place incase of drought or floods.
Water and Blue Economy. Blue economy is still a new concept in our country. So they will be able to guide us on how to sustainably use the available water and other resources that comes along with. Without practicing over-exploitation of these resources.
Forestry, Wildlife and Tourism. We are known for our wildlife but their habitat has been shrinking rapidily. We are to increase our forest cover to 10% and rehabilitate degraded lands. This will be a boost to both tourism and wildlife welfare.
Health, Sanitation and Human Settlements. Here, the plan is to improve on the solid waste management in urban areas.
Energy and Transport. This will help eliminate any energy production that is not climate-proof or contribute to greenhouse gases emissions in huge amounts.
Progress made in this Action Plan include:
Development of the National Adaption Plan. That is destined to help Kenyans adapt practices that will help curb climate change.
Establishment of climate change funds. That will be used to support the adaptation plans and practices in five counties.
Enabled expansion of geothermal, solar and wind power. So as to lower greenhouse gases emissions and natural resources utilization while producing power.
Provided improvement in legal and policy framework. Which includes Cimate Change Act 2016, National Climate Change Framework Policy as well as National Climate Finance Policy.
This Action Plan also included more parties such as:
National and County governments.
Civil Society organizations.
The above are very important in ensuring that this plan yiled success. It has included all the parties that contribute to the greenhouse gases emission . And best people to teach on the adaptation and mitigation plans while dealing with the consequences as a result of climate change.
From the big companies that keep dumping their waste into the water bodies. And getting away with the offence. Others , getting involved with harmful gases emissions and no plan to help the accumulation of those gases in that particular area.
Not forgetting those who deforest our forests and care less not to reforest them.
But the one that hurt most, was wildlife land grabbing.
So this video had all the data explaining how the so called untouchable people have been grabbing these lands and dividing it among their family members.
As years went by, they increased and grabbed even more. Leaving the poor and wildlife, homeless.
They even legalized papers for the grabbed land. So it is now legally their land.
Clean Energy, Thermal Energy or Renewable Energy. All these energies are destined to provide us electricity. A very importance source of power to almost everything we do in our daily lives.
Do you know which of the above your country uses to produce power?
Due to climate change and environmental degradation, most countries have been careful on what means to use while producing power. They are working on doing away with any means that emits greenhouse gases.
Energy bills have also been created and the power providing companies subjected to go by them. These bills are in such a way that production of power doesn’t cause harm to the environment during the whole process.
It also controls how much renewable sources are been extracted. As well as waste management by these companies.
Clean energy is simply any form of energy which is created with clean, harmless, and non-polluting methods.
Renewable energy is any type of energy which comes from renewable natural resources, such as wind, rain, sunlight, geothermal heat, and tides.
Thermal Energy (Geothermal energy ) refers to the energy that is generated and measured by heat.
So which energy is good for our planet?
Through the definitions, we are able to eliminate thermal energy. It’s one of the energy that is being discouraged while producing power.
For a safe planet, we are to only use clean energy. But we are yet to get there. So renewable energy has been a better option. As the companies work towards getting fully involved with only clean energy.
Renewable energy can be both bad and good.
When we go ahead and overexploit the renewable resources, then it becomes a bad means of power. As the resources become scarce or depleted.
We Need To Talk. The most fear sentence of line by human kind.
I looked at him and wondered, “Why are so sad?”and what’s the need of the talk?”
He just shook his head and looked the other side.
Had I done something wrong?
I needed to know, so I went ahead and planted my face to his. He took a deep breath and requested me to sit with him.
“Have you ever though how things would be running here, if human species was never part of it?”
That was not what I was hoping for, so I just stared at him.
“More species are getting extinct each passing day. The climate and weather patterns are no longer predictable. Infact they are becoming unbearable.
The temperatures in the oceans are rising and poles are rapidly melting away. Oxygen is becoming a critical need in the ocean’s floor. How are those species supposed to survive without oxygen.
It’s funny how you joke of how in near future, ice cone will be melting in your hands before you even get a chance to lick it few times. The heat is already here, and as always. It has not yet shock you enough. Can you know enjoy your ice cream in the open around midday?
You still get involved in activities that contribute to both global warming and climate change. Not forgetting causing extinction of other species.
We understand that we need each to survive. But you guys are taking way too much than you are supposed to. You cut all the trees, leaving none for other species and their own reproduction. It’s more of total extraction and ensuring that such as trees have been cleared out.
You have forgotten the principle of sharing and caring about tomorrow.
Thinking Out Loud. I would like to share with some of my thoughts that came as a result of seeing something really depressing. With the dry seasons everywhere, fires have become part of our days. Whereby fires have been burning stuff everywhere.
The wildfires at Mount Kenya and Arabuko Sokoke, are some of the fires that gave me stress. Yet I could not manage to offer any physical help but try to spread word through my writing. Those two fires consumed our indigenous forest cover and a good number of species lost their lives. As well as home and food.
Am yet to know the exact causes of these fires. Will share the findings once I get these findings.
So with that in mind. I see a piece of land that has been burnt. Am not sure if it was done intentional or unintentional. But the good part of it was burnt. A few days earlier I had seen some cattles grazing in this particular land. It doesn’t have much of vegetation, and the available one is very dry.
My problem, was the location of this piece o land. It is situated between a filling station, garage and a warehouse. Plus there’s a electricity transformer nearby. So I thought to myself, what if things went sideways and this fire spread. Whatever direction it may have been forced to follow. They would have been dire consequences.
How do we sell the environmental concept without having it diluted?
How do we sell the environmental concept without having it diluted? Environmental concepts have been facing opposition or get diluted when we push hard for them.
Public and other related parties are supposed to be able to embrace such concepts. By first understanding them, accepting and appreciating them. When they get to understand why doing something in a certain way is safe and important. They will be able to accept that particular way.
The next step would be to appreciate that proposed way wholly without looking for shortcuts or cheaper ways. After all cheap is expensive.
Appreciation will help the involved parties to stick to the given concept without thoughts that may lead them to it’s dissembling it to fit their greed desires. They will strive to meet the standard for a given concept and thus accomplishing the desired results
Some of the concepts that been diluted and conformed negatively
Urban Versus Rural Areas Waste Management Culture. Same species but different behaviors observed. The urban culture seems not to care much of their treatment towards the environment. While the rural culture has little to expose the environment to.
Rural Areas Waste Management Culture
People in the rural areas seem to have a better waste management culture despite not being educated much about it.
The little humans are raised understanding various positive acts towards nature.
Food wastage is almost a heard off in rural areas. They will always consume everything they cook. And if they happen to have some left overs, it will be consumed as breakfast, the following day. No food is allowed to go to waste in these areas.
They also have a culture of serving themselves what they can clear from their plates. Someone better add some more along the way, than leave halfeaten food in their plates.
They are also less exposed to the many packages. They are not addicted to the various unnecessary packagings.
