Letter to My Lovely Mum

Dear mum,

I hope you are doing okay and missing me.

Twenty years plus ago, I happened in your life and my existence brought a lot of changes into your life. You had no plans to have me yet but you still allowed me to be part of your life. Thank you very much for giving life to me mum, you are the best mum in the whole world and my siblings are the luckiest kids to have you as our mum.

Dad had doubts to support you at the beginning but that didn’t hold you down, you worked hard to make things work for your little princess. Grandma was the best nanny while you were busy making ends meet. You naming me after her was the best decision. She spoilt me with love and also ensured that I had the best manners.

Mum I have never told you this but I used to ask it to God while praying. I used to wonder why you only had one leg and felt too scared to hurt your feelings by asking about it to you. I used to question God about it but what amazed me the most was how you were so supportive in all manners compared to dad who was “complete”. You never allowed your physical status limit you from giving us best lives. You taught and raised me to be an entrepreneur and independent woman. You are the most amazing mum, and I will never be able to reward you of what you have done for us but I do pray God to enable you enjoy the fruit of the success in your babies lives.

You taught me to be hardworking and respective to everyone treating them in a manner I would like to be treated.  I remember how you used to fight for me when I got bullied at school and lifted my self-esteem when I down looked at myself. You became my best friend and always giving me an ear and a leaning shoulder till to date. You made it easy for me to confide in you and provided a heaven for me in this crazy world. You never judged but allowed me to express myself freely. You counselled me in loving and friendly manner, remained firm in your parenting and eventually produced a productive human being in me. Thank you mama.

I have few days away my birthday, I would like you to know that you raised a woman of substance in me. It could be my wish to fly you to Denmark for a vacation we celebrate my birthday but I can’t afford that that for now but with time I will eventually manage to do exactly that and many more. You are my number one together with my kid sister. Your teachings will always remain close to my heart forever.

Mum it’s sad that I can’t be with you every day but the phone calls and messages that you fill my days with, always brings me closer to you. It’s my wish that I will also come out a mum just like you. You are the super mum.

I will be seeing you soon mum, be prepared for my nagging as I work to fill all the missing I have for you. I really love you mum, you are the best.

Your lovely princess,

Winnie.
