Is it out of Necessity or Greed?

Is it out of Necessity or Greed?

Is it out of Necessity or Greed? Whatever you do no matter how small or big it may appear. How important or what value it may have on you. What drives your motivation?

When Government acts after the public takes laws into their hands (Necessity or Greed)

Why do we protest? Why do we risk our lives and head to the streets? Carrying posters with reforms we desire to be attend to. Or problems that have not be addressed by the responsible people.

I love wildlife but I also respect human life and property. That said, I don’t support when humans take away whats meant for wildlife. Every life is important and resources for each species should be respected. It’s my desire that both wildlife and humans get their justice.

In 2015, residents around Kingwal Swamp (Nandi, Kenya) had to set the swamp on fire for government to hear them out. And yes it worked. Surprisely, the community ended up giving up their land to the swelling swamp.

The set the swamp on fire because the Sitatunga destroyed and consumed their crops. Leaving them poor and with no food. Sitatunga as per the Kenyan constitution is among the endangered species hence anyone found killing them risk a very long time in jail and/or hefty bails terms. Their damage is also not liable for compensation as they are not considered to create extreme damage as herbivores. So the community had to swallow the bitter pill till they couldn’t do so any more.

Hiking is the answer

Hiking is the answer

Hiking is the answer, if you feel overwhelmed and almost giving up on something you are working on or yourself.

Do you feel as if there’s no thing that has a point in life? You don’t see the need to do anything or be with anyone , any more. It’s like no life is left with you. You are in auto play mode , just doing stuff for the sake of it. No motivation or will within.

If you had a way out, you would gladly take it. But unfortunately you can’t see any. So you just operate like a zombie gone back to life. Nothing excite you at more. Not even your favorite Netflix show or game or your lovely pet. The whoe point is gone and you are stuck with yourself.

What qualifies to be a hike?

It involves a long walk or walking tour.

But don’t confuse it to be just a walk.

The difference is that hiking is when you are walking through a natural scenery or on a mountain. Hiking mostly takes place in mountainous or hilly areas -forests, mountains, and reserved parks. It’s more difficult than walking and might require to using more effort and energy, depending on the terrain

Understanding Planet as an Ecosystem

Understanding Planet as an Ecosystem.

Understanding Planet as an Ecosystem. Earth is an ecosystem as a larger scale.

What is an ecosystem?

Ecosystem refers to an interconnected system.

It’s a biological community that involves interactions between the organisms and their physical environment.

These organisms include humans, animals, micro-organisms, etc. Anything that qualifies to be a living organism.

There are various types of ecosystems. Namely:

  • Forest Ecosystems
  • Grassland Ecosystems
  • Desert Ecosystems
  • Tundra Ecosystems
  • Freshwater Ecosystems
  • Marine Ecosystems

These ecosystems have been classified as per their vegetation types and nature, climatic conditions as well as water type.

They can be subdivided into various other groups when being very specific of an ecosystem in a particular area.

What connects living organisms and their physical environment ?

They are connected by the nutrients cycles and energy flows.

Everything in our planet depend on another thing for basic needs such as food, habitat, reproduction, dispersal, etc.

What happens to this ecosystem when one species is destroyed or goes extinct?

As we have seen we are a connected system. So our survival and quality of life relies on the connections among us. So when one thing is removed, we will surely feel the inbalance.

Food chain vs Food Web in the ecosystem

Foodchain is a linear sequence of organisms which starts from producer organisms and ends with decomposer species. While foodweb is a connection of multiple food chains and follows different lines.

Food web helps understands representation of the energy flow through different organisms in an ecosystem.

In both food chains and food webs, we have producers, consumers and decomposers.

If producers reduced, consumers will have nothing to consume and decomposers will have alot to decompose due to high rates of death as a result of hunger.

The producers need help from insects and other animals so as to disperse, fertilise and reproduce. If these organisms are not present to aid in this process. Producers will eventually die. So there will be no production of food. And the effects will be felt along the chain and web.

Are humans affected directly by the extinction of species in our ecosystem ?

Protect what is close to your heart

Protect what is close to your heart

We should be able to protect what is close to our hearts. Because they mean a lot to us. We should not allow anyone, absolutely anyone mess up with them.

These things include our natural resources, cultures, public resources, etc. Anything we owe as a public, we should give it a thought and care for them.

How do we protect our public resources?

We have various ways we can be able to protect them. From outside forces, our corrupt leaders or the greedy lot within us. And we do so by speaking up and against such evil acts.

Anything that’s ownership falls under public. Is for the good of everyone. Everyone should be able to benefit from them. They should never be used to fulfill greed of the few ones. No matter how powerful they may be.

We should not allow our leaders to come up with laws that don’t support sustainable use of these resources. These natural resources should be close to our hearts. They have been freely gifted to us by mother nature. And as long as we use them suistanably, she will continue offering them to us. So when laws aren’t for the good intentions to mother nature, it’s time to scream really loud. Knock all doors and head to the streets till they hear us.

Change we need starts with us. We should embrace sustainable use of these resources right from our homes. Don’t allow your greed to make you extract more than needed. Remember everyone deserve a piece of this cake. When we appreciate and understand importance of sustainability . Then we can be able to conserve what we have.

Having learnt to take what nature can manage to regenerate, you will be able to teach others how to do so. You will be in a good position to speak through actions. You will have understood that for these resources to continue being present, we need to allow nature time and space.

How do I contribute towards Nature Conservation?

Calls for nature conservation have been dominating our news and conversations lately. And you maybe asking yourself, how do I become useful? This is a good start and in the next five minutes, you will be good to go.

What is nature conservation

It involves sustainable utilization of natural resources in order to prevent their depletion. Its done through an official supervision of these natural resources.

It’s simply refers to preserving of the natural resources. By preserving them, we are able to prevent extinct of these valuable resources.

Lets make our Earth greener.

Why is it important to participate in nature conservation.

Human activities pose major threats facing natural resources. These activities causes a negative balance between ecosystem and biodivervisty. If left unchecked, they can result to extinction of these natural resources.

By embracing ways and method that support and promote nature sustainability. We will be able to practice nature conservation effectively.

Countries have been joining efforts towards a greener earth. This led to 17 Sustainable Development Goals that are to be adopted by all countries. Adoption of these goals will promote achievement of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Developments.

By adopting these goals, peoples’ live will be improved and nature will not face extinction. These 17 Sustainable Development Goals includes:

GOAL 1: No Poverty

GOAL 2: Zero Hunger

GOAL 3: Good Health and Well-being

GOAL 4: Quality Education

GOAL 5: Gender Equality

GOAL 6: Clean Water and Sanitation

GOAL 7: Affordable and Clean Energy

GOAL 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth

GOAL 9: Sustainable Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure

GOAL 10: Reduced Inequality

GOAL 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities

GOAL 12: Sustainable Consumption and Production

GOAL 13: Combat climate change

GOAL 14: Life Below Water

GOAL 15: Life on Land

GOAL 16: Peace and Justice Strong Institutions

GOAL 17: Partnerships to achieve the Goal

As you can see goals 2,6,7,8,9,11,12 and 13 are targeted towards promoting natural resources conservation. As well as reducing any negative effects as a result of human activities.

Let's embrace solar systems for our energy requirements.

Personal levels in nature conservation.

How do you contribute towards this noble act as a person?
