Are we misusing the word Sustainability?

Are we misusing the word Sustainability? Now that we have been attaching it to any project we want to prosper. Nowadays, if you want to get support. Then you have to convince us that it’s sustainable. But do they really mean it in action?

What is Sustainability?

In regards to economic growth, sustainability refers to the ability to be maintained at a certain rate or level.

While in pursuit of global environmental sustainability, it implies avoiding the depletion of natural resources. So as to maintain an ecological balance.

What about the Sustainable Developments?

Involves economic development that is conducted without depletion of natural resources.

Now you can easily understand the sustainable development goals. They are all geared towards ensuring that we don’t too much from our natural resources. We avoid overexploitation so as to allow nature space to regenerate what we take.

Then we adopted..

Sustainable living, sustainable customer service, sustainable work environment, sustainable consumption, and many other sustainable that we thought would help us sell our ideas to the target group.

Are we really living up to its real meaning? Do we really understand what it takes to have a sustainable something?

Can sustainability be measured in our developments?

How do we know that our developments are sustainable or click with sustainability?

Here is where measures come in. Which includes:

The three Rs approach. Where we reduce, reuse and recycle. With this approach, we get to reduce wastage, pollution, and exploitation. This helps to rule out the one-use plastic products, only using what we need and not wasting anything, as well as having something we can refuse for several times.

Capacity building among the public and involved parties. By creating awareness and educating them. Then we get to have informed people that will help advocate for decisions that are eco-friendly and good for our ecosystem.

Nature of the technology. The correct and sustainable technology should be people friendly, positive to the environment, respects our culture, doesn’t use a lot of resources. and produce a minimum of waste.

Offers quality life. The development should be able to have a positive effect on people’s lives in all aspects. That is, socially, economically as well as culturally. No group or class of people should be left out. Each of their needs should be taken into consideration.

Do you teach your Kids about our Environment?

Do you teach your Kids about our Environment?

Do you teach your Kids about our Environment? Do they understand the changing events in our environment? How do they handle waste management in the house?

Homes and Schools shapes how kids

You can easily tell how a home is from how kids from that home behaves.

If a kid is from a home where no one cares to make them dispose of waste correctly. They will easily litter everywhere, without giving it much thought. They will mix waste and promote bad waste management.

Same can be said when it comes to respecting and how people treat others. As much as respect is earned, we also need to have a good background since childhood. If you grow up not knowing anything about respect. Then how will you even know that someone has earned it?

How we treat people in our houses, the kids see and mirror. Just like they know to do stuff by mirroring adults. Same applies to also behaviors we may not want them to copy. So we have to be careful about how we handle ourselves. As it fully shapes our future generation.

But things seem to be changing in some parts

Kids seem to be making wiser decisions than the grownups. And even going ahead to correct us. It’s a good thing as well as the savior to our rotting society. Helps in correcting what adults messed up.

Internet and exposure to online space have exposed kids to more teachers around the world. For both bad and good developments. Depending on how they use the internet. A lot is being taught in the online space and almost out of control. We can not control what to be accessed or what not to be accessed. And since most parents are green to online space, kids are the ones doing the teaching.

Look at the striking students on climate change. They have been pointing out what leaders and parents, have been silent about. What they have refused to admit just so as to continue explaining our environment. They have managed to convince both adults and other students on the needs to fight climate change.

So, will you teach your kids about the environment? Or will you let them know about it on their own?

I have a friend who always targets his son into all his environmental initiatives. He teaches him the importance of growing trees, not wasting food, among other valuable environmental lessons. The kid loves it and keeps up with dad’s works. Which is a beautiful thing, right?

Wouldn’t you like the same? Where your kid serves themselves exactly what they can consume, are happy and eager to grow trees, ensures that each waste goes to the right bin, among others. Whose decisions will always consider their impacts on the environment. And these are the tomorrow leaders that we need. Since it seems that we are unable or unwilling to right our wrongs.

It starts with baby steps, they just want good footprints to follow. Let us stop misleading them. Unlike adults, kids love and care for each other genuinely. They will do things to other kids without expecting anything in return. That’s why they don’t see race, color, tribe, class or whatever evils adults see. For them, they are all equal in each other’s eyes. They are not corrupted by greed.

No wonder they click so well with animals. Both have pure hearts and clean intentions. They think no harm for anything and do almost everything out of pure love of their little tiny hearts.

Happy Mother’s Day Mother Nature

Happy Mother’s Day Mother Nature

Happy Mother’s Day Mother Nature. The second week of May allows us an opportunity to celebrate all the mothers in all corners of our planet. We get to salute them for the great job and sacrifice they offer the babies. Both biological, adopted or any form that they got their babies.

No matter how old or how big we may get, we still remain babies to our mothers. They will move mountains for us. And literally, do everything to give us a good life. I salute all Mother’s, you are extremely special to all of us.

This goes to the mothers in the wild too. They have no hospital privileges while giving birth, but they make it happen. Taking good care of their young ones despite the changing environment and scarce resources. They have offered incredible experiences when we give them a visit. And help to keep the populations alive.

What about mother nature?

We owe everything to her, yet she rarely asks anything in return. We push her to the limits, but she continues to fight so as to survive for us. She has offered her natural resources, but we have given her all kinds of pollutions and over-exploitation in return. Resulting in climate change, species extinctions, and many more sad events.

She is a mother that we neglected and choose to ignore. Like other mothers, she chooses not to give up on us and she has been repairing our planet on our behalf. But it’s becoming difficult, as we continue to engage in sophisticated practices that cause severe harm to our environment. Seems mother nature is about to give up on us.

Gift her this Mother’s day by saying NO to everything that causes her harm. Educate more on eco-friendly practices and help many to embrace this lifestyle. Create awareness everywhere and anytime you get an opportunity to do so.

Unlike our Mother’s, whom we have gifted with trips, gifts, hugs, company, etc. Mother nature may not be able to get that, but by creating awareness and practicing it, it’s a great gift. For both mother nature and us.

What is Your Preferred Source of Protein?

What is Your Preferred Source of Protein?

What is Your Preferred Source of Protein? Are you a vegetarian or non-vegetarian? Which protein source do you like most?

Using plants as source of proteins

Vegetarians and other plant lovers, prefer getting their protein from plants.

It’s also recommended for those trying to shade some few pounds.

Most importantly, those who consume more plants than they do meat, are considered friends of our planet. As they do not promote the emission of human-induced greenhouse gases.

These plants include:

  • Seeds and Nuts
  • Beans and legumes
  • Soy products
  • Grain and cereal-based products

Just like herbivores, for you to get good amount of protein from this plants, then you have to consume them in huge amounts. They take a while to really make you full and digested very fast. Hence an excellent healthy decisions that many shun away from.

I remember how we used to joke that plants are foods for rabbits, and distancing ourselves from them. Until when we became obesed and they turned to be our life savers. So now we know better, ttat they are rich food that should make-up the biggest part of our plate.

Animal’s product that supplies us protein

What do You Think About BullFighting?

What do You Think About BullFighting?

What do You Think About BullFighting? Do we really need to support such traditions in this century? Do we ever consider the bull’s side of the story?

BullFighting

It’s whereby bulls are made to fight each other, or made to fight with humans.

It is believed to have been borrowed from bull worship and sacrifice. And originated from Rome. Where humans versus animals competitions were held for entertainment purposes.

This then spread to other parts of the world. I guess we got carried away by the famous say, when you go to Rome, do as the Romans do.

Traditional bull fighting has been considered as a cultural/traditional practices. That attract people all over the world. The event have sponsors and sometimes aired on the televisions.

People travel across continents to witness and be part of this awful practice. They fill the stadiums and enjoy seeing the bulls fight for their lives. I wonder if they see it that way.

Bulls are usually ‘prepared’ for the bull fighting event

What Do You Know About Foxes?

What Do You Know About Foxes?

What Do You Know About Foxes? Are fixed dogs or cats? Beyond their cute fur covering their body and long bushy tail. As well as the qualities attached to them, they are not good pets. Taming them has never perfectly worked. I guess it’s a sign that wildlife should just simply be left to remain in the wild. And left to occupy and live in their natural habitats.

Foxes

They are somehow small to medium omnivores that are dog-like. But not dogs. Mainly feeding on the inverbrates, small vertebrates, as well as plants and eggs.

They have a flattened skull, upright triangular ears, a pointed, slightly upturned snout, and a long bushy tail.

Leach is the term used to describe a group of foxes. While a male fox may be referred to as a tod and a female one as the vixen. The little ones are cubs/pups/kits.

They are several species of foxes but only 12 of them are considered to be true foxes. They include:

  • Red Fox
  • Gray Fox
  • Arctic Fox
  • Fennec Fox
  • Kit Fox
  • Swift Fox
  • Blanford’s Fox
  • Cape Fox / Silver-backed Fox
  • Corsa Fox
  • Tibetan Fox
  • Ruppell’s Fox
  • Bengal Fox/ Indian Fox

They are widely spread across the world. And belong to the same family as the wolves and jackals.

They have a very short lifespan

They can manage to live up to 10 years.

Unlike some dog families that are very social. Foxes may live solitary or be engaged in very small family groups.

Understanding the National Climate Change Action Plan

Did you know that Kenya has a National Climate Change Action Plan?

Did you know that Kenya has a National Climate Change Action Plan? Yes we have one, that runs for five years. Full of solutions on how to curb climate change in our country.

Roles played by this National Climate Action Plan

  • It provides our country with a guideline to accomplish our commitment to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. Which is an international body responsible for helping our planet get solutions for climate change effects.
  • Give us guidelines on how to live with climate change.
  • Offer support while dealing with how we carry out our development activities. Putting in check negative human impacts during such developments.
  • Helps us work on ways to reduce amounts of green house gases we are producing.

Who are involved in this Action Plan?

It’s made up of scientist, analysts, climate change researchers, international organisation representatives, people from ministries that deal with environmental issues, among others.

These people were able to first evaluate climate change impact in our country. Noting the damage already done. So as to come up with adaptation and mitigation measures. That will help reduce the climate change effects.

Almost all parts in the country had some research done in them. And the most affected noted. These are areas that the mitigation measures got applied to first. And the result has been amazing.

People’s response towards National Change Action Plan

  • Through the climate change awareness platforms, people were able to help coming up with ideas to curb climate change.
  • They were able to change waste into useful products.
  • Embraced practices that aided in reduction of greenhouse gases emission.

So far they have been positive progress made and a lot is yet to be done.

So far we have two National Climate Change Action Plan (NCCAP)

Kenya’s 2nd National Climate Change Action Plan (2018 – 2022)

Kenya’s 2nd National Climate Change Action Plan (2018 – 2022)

Kenya’s 2nd National Climate Change Action Plan (2018 – 2022). It’s basically a continuation and a comprehensive version of the 1st National Climate Change Action Plan of 2013 – 2017.

This Action Plan first identified priory areas that helped shape the details to be included. These priority areas are:

  • Food and Nutrition Security. Whereby they are to assist Kenyans increase food production and nutrition security. By promoting agricultural practices that will produce low carbon.
  • Disaster Risk Management. This is to be addressed by ensuring measures are put in place incase of drought or floods.
  • Water and Blue Economy. Blue economy is still a new concept in our country. So they will be able to guide us on how to sustainably use the available water and other resources that comes along with. Without practicing over-exploitation of these resources.
  • Forestry, Wildlife and Tourism. We are known for our wildlife but their habitat has been shrinking rapidily. We are to increase our forest cover to 10% and rehabilitate degraded lands. This will be a boost to both tourism and wildlife welfare.
  • Health, Sanitation and Human Settlements. Here, the plan is to improve on the solid waste management in urban areas.
  • Energy and Transport. This will help eliminate any energy production that is not climate-proof or contribute to greenhouse gases emissions in huge amounts.

Progress made in this Action Plan include:

  • Development of the National Adaption Plan. That is destined to help Kenyans adapt practices that will help curb climate change.
  • Establishment of climate change funds. That will be used to support the adaptation plans and practices in five counties.
  • Enabled expansion of geothermal, solar and wind power. So as to lower greenhouse gases emissions and natural resources utilization while producing power.
  • Provided improvement in legal and policy framework. Which includes Cimate Change Act 2016, National Climate Change Framework Policy as well as National Climate Finance Policy.

This Action Plan also included more parties such as:

  • National and County governments.
  • Civil Society organizations.
  • Youth
  • Women
  • Vulnerable groups
  • Private sector
  • Development partners

The above are very important in ensuring that this plan yiled success. It has included all the parties that contribute to the greenhouse gases emission . And best people to teach on the adaptation and mitigation plans while dealing with the consequences as a result of climate change.

Why is this Action Plan necessary and timely?

What Happens Next?

What Happens Next?

What Happens Next? When you have all the information needed to proof that someone somewhere did an injustice. But changes nothing. And you can’t do anything about it.

The Untouchables

Have you ever happened to cross their paths or witness their evil actions. That you have no power to question. And even if you do your best, their money and power set them free.

They reclaim their freedom back and do more harm. Like they are rubbing it all over your face.

How do they feel about the whole issue , deep within them? Do they even have conscious to help them see all the injustices they subject other humans to?

When You try to digest the reality and your stomach end up aching in the process

So I was going through Youtube, looking for anyone talking about environment injustices.

From the big companies that keep dumping their waste into the water bodies. And getting away with the offence. Others , getting involved with harmful gases emissions and no plan to help the accumulation of those gases in that particular area.

Not forgetting those who deforest our forests and care less not to reforest them.

But the one that hurt most, was wildlife land grabbing.

So this video had all the data explaining how the so called untouchable people have been grabbing these lands and dividing it among their family members.

As years went by, they increased and grabbed even more. Leaving the poor and wildlife, homeless.

They even legalized papers for the grabbed land. So it is now legally their land.

Into the Wild Rabbit Hole

Into the Wild Rabbit Hole

Into the Wild Rabbit Hole. Have you ever been lucky to spot baby wild rabbits in the wild. If not, don’t worry. Many don’t get a chance to spot them. This is due to the technique used by their mother. They are good at hiding their babies.

Did you know that Wild Rabbits hide their babies underground?

One important goal in the wild is to remain alive. So various wildlife has come up with genius ways of protecting their kids. Before they get old enough, to do so on their own.

Especially the ones considered as prey, know very well that anytime. If not careful, they may end up being breakfast, lunch, dinner or late night dessert for some predators.

So the wild rabbits, saw the holes to be the safe haven for its babies. And it has been working well so far.

They only leave a very tiny breathing opening and create leave too many foortprints. As well as their smell to confuse the predators, incase it passes by. It’s how they manage to keep their babies away from their predators.

The mother rabbit limits her trips to the nest, two times. Making it extremely difficult for the predators to find their nest.

Funny enough, they have been observed to make nests in plain areas. Their nests being underground , make it possible to have it in the open fields.

The baby rabbits only come out to feed and get buried back by their mothers.

The mothers are the ones responsible for building these nests. The nests are built in areas with plenty of food as well as good cover for hiding their nests.

The nests are filled with brushes , rabbits’ fur and other smooth materials that are aimed to bring comfort to the nest.

Are Wild Rabbits similar to the bunnies at home?
