How do we sell the environmental concept without having it diluted?

How do we sell the environmental concept without having it diluted? Environmental concepts have been facing opposition or get diluted when we push hard for them.

Public and other related parties are supposed to be able to embrace such concepts. By first understanding them, accepting and appreciating them. When they get to understand why doing something in a certain way is safe and important. They will be able to accept that particular way.

The next step would be to appreciate that proposed way wholly without looking for shortcuts or cheaper ways. After all cheap is expensive.

Appreciation will help the involved parties to stick to the given concept without thoughts that may lead them to it’s dissembling it to fit their greed desires. They will strive to meet the standard for a given concept and thus accomplishing the desired results

Critically Endangered Helmeted Hornbill is being tagged for its Ivory

Critically Endangered Helmeted Hornbill is being tagged for its Ivory

Critically Endangered Helmeted Hornbill is being tagged for its Ivory. Whereby its ivory is found on its huge beautiful beak that makes 10% of its body weight.

It’s a very large bird with a wrinkled throat patch.

Where do we find Helmeted Hornbill ?

They mostly feed on the fruits especially those from fig trees. Also, feed on insects, barks, among other creatures.

This birds used to be found in various places, whereby they are currently extinct.

They can currently be found in Indonesia, Brunei, Thailand, Malaysia as well as Myanmar. But now extinct in Singapore.

Where do we find the most sort for ivory in the Helmeted Hornbill

It is found on their beaks, a piece of their body known as casques. Which happens to be a solid keratin in this bird.

It runs from the beak’s base halfway to the tip.

When did they start to be a target for this ivory

These birds have a target for some time now. AAnd this explains why they are now considered critically endangered and extinct in some places.

Unlike other ivory from the huge animals like elephants and the like. Ivory from these birds, can easily be sneaked in by the poachers.

Being soft compared to other ivories , they have to be subjected to heat before being used in making ornaments.

So how do you support fight such ivory and these birds?

We Kill Wildlife while protecting Livestock, But feed captive Wildlife with Livestock

We Kill Wildlife while protecting Livestock, But feed captive Wildlife with Livestock

We Kill Wildlife while protecting Livestock, But feed captive Wildlife with Livestock. It’s sadly funny, right? And somehow doesn’t make sense.

Livestock

It refers to domesticated animals that have raised in an agricultural setting to produce labor and commodities such as meat, eggs, milk, fur, leather, and wool.

They are animals that early humans managed to change their way of living and extracted them from their natural habitat.

Unfortunately, just like slavery. It was an aggressive invitation into the humans’ settlement. This is because they had and could do something of help to human species. How do you treat domestic animals around you?

Livestock had to undergo various changes and developments so as to meet humans needs. Whereby their bodies have been injected with drugs, fed food to boost whatever seemed to be missing, and even forced to grow faster through science.

They completely have no leisure to live their own lives as they please. But what seems more profitable to humans. For example, a chicken that would take a year to mature and hatch their own chicks. They now take months, if not weeks, to mature and make way to our plates. The eggs no longer need their mama’s warming them up for 21 days. Incubators took over.

Poor livestock, living by our terms and seem not to have way to defend themselves.

Livestock activists

Am happy to see a part of humans fighting for livestock that is being placed under uncondusive environment.

They are able to ensure that no livestock is killed ruthlessly. They are transported in such a way that doesn’t cause pain to the transportedlivestock. The ones being used for labor provision are not overworked.

Just to name a few. They are there to ensure that we respect and treat livestock in a good way.

Why do we kill wildlife while protecting livestock, but feed captive wildlife with livestock?

We Need To Talk

We Need To Talk

We Need To Talk. The most fear sentence of line by human kind.

I looked at him and wondered, “Why are so sad?”and what’s the need of the talk?”
He just shook his head and looked the other side.

Had I done something wrong?

I needed to know, so I went ahead and planted my face to his.
He took a deep breath and requested me to sit with him.

“Have you ever though how things would be running here, if human species was never part of it?”

That was not what I was hoping for, so I just stared at him.

“More species are getting extinct each passing day. The climate and weather patterns are no longer predictable. Infact they are becoming unbearable.

The temperatures in the oceans are rising and poles are rapidly melting away. Oxygen is becoming a critical need in the ocean’s floor. How are those species supposed to survive without oxygen.

It’s funny how you joke of how in near future, ice cone will be melting in your hands before you even get a chance to lick it few times. The heat is already here, and as always. It has not yet shock you enough. Can you know enjoy your ice cream in the open around midday?

When The Huge Wildlife Falls in Love With You

When The Huge Wildlife Falls in Love With You

When the huge wildlife fall in love with you. How would you feel if an animal like an elephant, rhino, lion or even some of dangerous snakes, becaome your best buddies. As some tend to term the as beast buddies.

Wildlife are dangerous and that should never be underestimated. As much as we may create a connection with them. They still remain wild and anything may change anytime very fast. Resulting to loss of lives or losing several body parts. It’s important that this sinks into our brains while handling wildlife.

Just like any other living organism, they have power to determine several scenarios. Like when another species is about to harm them or being “good”. And that’s why we see them getting connected to their human buddies.

Falling in love with Huge wildlife

It’s never love at the first sight on the wildlife part. Humans may love them at the first sight. But they have to do more to earn the same from wildlife.

Wildlife will need a reason and somehow a confirmation from your actions before they can offer you love and the huge hugs. Luckly, unlike humans who may be deserved by sweet words. Actions speak love in the wild. Not forgetting the extreme need for consistency .

They will always be difficult at first as you work your way into their hearts. And they may still reject you despite all that effort. They are wild and free to reject who they dislike. I kinda like how they operate. I like that, because it helps them offer you true love which last for a very long time.

It’s almost impossible to create a connection with the wildlife in their natural habitat. All that can help is staying out of way of one another. But with extreme hard work and giant patience, you may get some love back.

So most humans who desire a connection with wildlife. Cultivate it while the animals are in captivity. These include places like sanctuaries, zoos or any captive places they keep wildlife.

They take part in activities that help open wildlife heart to them. It may be helping an elephant calf come into terms of her Mother’s death caused by poachers. The calf doesn’t know the difference of the poachers from the humans offering them love. They will see them as the same person hence a threat.

They will take time to be open to the idea of giving themselves to these nice humans. This the golden time for the nice humans to erase the ba image created of humans on the affected calf. It may take hours, days or months with hard work to make it work.

All babies including those of wildlife, tend to reboot more often. Hence within a short time, they are able to forget what happened. And this offers a window for nice humans to sneak into their adorable hearts.

They may fall in love with you but that does mean they wont hurt the rest

We are in a combustible Planet : Wild Fires

We are in a combustible Planet : Wild Fires

We are in a combustible Planet , hence the presence of Wild Fires in different continents from time to time.

This is due to factors such as :

  • Flora rich in carbon
  • The seasonal dry climates
  • Presence of oxygen in the atmosphere
  • Lightning
  • Volcanic activities
  • Human negligence while handling man-caused fires

According to nature and it’s ecosystem processes, these wild fires are very important for the growth and development of some plant species. This only applies to the natural wild fires. The ones that have not been contributed by human activities.

The need to manage forests and it’s vegetation. The involved parties may cause a managed wild fire. This helps to promote growth and reproduction of these vegetation. Get rid of the unwanted vegetation hence reducing the fuel build up. And avoid occurance of the natural wild fire than may get out of hand. Destroying more vegetation and even human life.

How can Humans contribute to wild fires

Humans can introduce these fires intentionally or unintentionally.

These means include:

  • Arson
  • Discarded cigarettes
  • Faulty power-lines
  • Sparks from equipment
  • Land clearing fires that spread to the nearby forests.

Our Mount Kenya has been burning for the last six days

Understanding Planet as an Ecosystem

Understanding Planet as an Ecosystem.

Understanding Planet as an Ecosystem. Earth is an ecosystem as a larger scale.

What is an ecosystem?

Ecosystem refers to an interconnected system.

It’s a biological community that involves interactions between the organisms and their physical environment.

These organisms include humans, animals, micro-organisms, etc. Anything that qualifies to be a living organism.

There are various types of ecosystems. Namely:

  • Forest Ecosystems
  • Grassland Ecosystems
  • Desert Ecosystems
  • Tundra Ecosystems
  • Freshwater Ecosystems
  • Marine Ecosystems

These ecosystems have been classified as per their vegetation types and nature, climatic conditions as well as water type.

They can be subdivided into various other groups when being very specific of an ecosystem in a particular area.

What connects living organisms and their physical environment ?

They are connected by the nutrients cycles and energy flows.

Everything in our planet depend on another thing for basic needs such as food, habitat, reproduction, dispersal, etc.

What happens to this ecosystem when one species is destroyed or goes extinct?

As we have seen we are a connected system. So our survival and quality of life relies on the connections among us. So when one thing is removed, we will surely feel the inbalance.

Food chain vs Food Web in the ecosystem

Foodchain is a linear sequence of organisms which starts from producer organisms and ends with decomposer species. While foodweb is a connection of multiple food chains and follows different lines.

Food web helps understands representation of the energy flow through different organisms in an ecosystem.

In both food chains and food webs, we have producers, consumers and decomposers.

If producers reduced, consumers will have nothing to consume and decomposers will have alot to decompose due to high rates of death as a result of hunger.

The producers need help from insects and other animals so as to disperse, fertilise and reproduce. If these organisms are not present to aid in this process. Producers will eventually die. So there will be no production of food. And the effects will be felt along the chain and web.

Are humans affected directly by the extinction of species in our ecosystem ?

Twisted Conservation Education and Awareness

Twisted Conservation Education and Awareness.

Why are we confusing the local communities and other kind hearted people from all corners of this amazing planet?

Conservation is being turned into a jackpot for mining money. And people are applying all cruel means they can think of. Wildlife and innocent people are being lied to, their resources stolen, and many other awful things.

How did we get there?

Few years ago, not many knew or understood much about conservation. Most wildlife were abundance and safe from danger. It was not of necessity.

Then we started to over-use the natural resources. We took more than the nature could regenerate. And in the process, started to loss some of these resources for good. They disappeared forever and in return gave reason torecheck how we used these resources. Giving birth to conservation.

Conservation was not well received and still not yet close to most people’s heart. Since it meant reduced resources harvesting and that meant reduced dollars. No one likes that, everyone love making more and not less.

Embracing of conservation as well as its education and awareness spreading

Genuine conservationists used everything they had to ensure it survived all the opposition. They ensure to reach the most affected places and helped the locals understand importance of protecting natural resources surrounding them. In the process, the rest saw and appreciated their efforts. Hence conservation gained some good roots to withstand opposition from those against it.

Conservationist either do it as individuals, groups or even organizations. The aim being to consolidate their efforts and fight whatever that was derailing conservation success. After all, more than one head is better while solving problems. But something started to go south ways.

So what is this twisted conservation education an awareness am talking about?

Do you donate to wildlife fund organizations? Or support conservationists/local communities? Or any activities that is meant to support wildlife welfare.

I guess most of us do so or something close to that. And we do so because we love wildlife and wish to have them longer. For the future generations and ensuring that our planet don’t loss these treasure. We all give and contribute what we have for the love of wildlife.

And that’s how twisted conservation found it ways into our already destroyed and vulnerable planet.

Sadly, a group of evil people have realized how to use wildlife for their benefits. They are ripping off these donations and funds for their own benefits. And some going to an extent of harming wildlife they are supposedly expected to protect. Or misusing local communities resources.

Most of the time, the local don’t know much about conservation of the wildlife surrounding them. And some already have a cold shoulder towards them due to human-wildlife conflicts. So when we manage to convince them to join conservation ride, it’s a milestone. So what happens when they are convinced by the “fake and evil” conservationists?

These evil people have disgraced true conservation and justice for wildlife. Conservation is already a hard and yet to be embraced in most corners. Twisted conservation seem to be penetrating pretty fast.

Currently in Kenya, there’s an organisation being accused of stealing elephants valves from their mothers. So that they can pretend to have saved them as orphans.

It all started here.

Here are the links to some cries from several conservationists about this recovery.

Evil deeds done to wildlife that will break your heart

Evil deeds done to wildlife that will break your heart.

These deeds are executed by us without caring how wildlife feels about it. Or what impact they have on them. They are heartless and brutal.

I came across one that almost gave me a heart attack. Allowing me to reflect on similar incidences that cross my path while research about wildlife status around the world.

Former Zimbabwe president’s (Robert Mugabe) birthday in 2015

Am still shocked and angry about what I read. Do we have wildlife conservationist in Zimbabwe? Who would have stopped this guy. But wait, he was one of the worst dictators. So I guess no one would dare opposed him.

Apparently, this guy’s birthday saw death of two elephants, two buffaloes, two sables, five impalas and one lion as a source of food. That’s right. These wildlife were killed to provide meat for his birthday party.

Read more about the party here.

Do you see endangerous species in that list? Do you get any idea that would have necessitated their death?

This guy made his people go through a lot of pain and loss. But guess what? They still made his birthday to be a public holiday. Named Robert Mugabe National Youth day and will be happening on twenty firsts of February.

No matter what power you have, every life is important. We have to be reasonable on how we handle public resources especially those who we elect to represent us in the governments. Your job is to do the great good for all citizens and not sastfying your selfish desires.

Petting wildlife illegally is also one of the evil deeds
