Let’s Embrace Domestic Tourism

Domestic tourism is not very popular in Kenya. This is mostly due to the wrong information. Whereby locals tend to assume that the gate fees are too expensive. They also an assumption that tourism belong to the white guys. But all these are wrong information being assumed to be true.

There have been an increase in the domestic tourism rates. And most people are embracing the activity. Locals are visiting parks, reserves, orphanages and sanctuaries. They are also taking part in conservation activities. Including planting of trees, providing support towards wildlife, among others.
To the rest, who are yet to embrace domestic tourism. Let me take this opportunity to take you through the expenses. It’s not expensive as you may think. Am sure you will definitely visit one of them after reading this.

First, I will outline for you the various categories of conservation areas. These categories are as per Kenya Wildlife Service. And they do have different charges.

Leopard Leopard

They include:

  • Premium parks – These includes Amboseli National Park and Nakuru National Park.
  • Wilderness parks – This category is further divided into two:
    1.Wilderness park A – which includes both Tsavo East National Park and Tsavo West National Park.
    2.Wilderness Park B – which includes Meru National Park, Aberdare National Park as well as Mt. Kenya National Park.
  • Urban Safari – This include the Nairobi National Park.
  • Sanctuaries – They include the animal orphange center, both in Nairobi and Kisumu, Impala safari walk and Nairobi Safari Walk.
  • Mountain climbing – Just like the name, it includes Mount Kenya National Park that allow mountain climbing.
  • Special Interest – This category is also further divided into two:
    1.Special Interest A includes Hell’s Gate National Park, Mount Elgon National Park and Ol-Donyo Sabuk National Park.
    2.Special Interest B includes all the other parks that have not been mentioned.
  • Marine parks – Includes the Kisite Mpunguti Marine National Park, Malindi Marine National Park, Mombasa Marine National Park and Kiunga Marine National Park.

  2. In South Africa we are also looking at growing domestic tourism. A great start is to demystify travel. It’s not just for the rich and famous. Anyone can travel and there are some great low budget options to explore. #WeDoTourism
